But we are not afraid of the big bad wolf.<\/p>\n<p>Hungary's thriving economy<\/p>\n<p>The report card for the Hungarian government makes cheerful reading. The economy is the strongest in the region. Investors are calm, pushing ten-year bond yields up to 9%.<\/p>\n<p>Victor Orban, the prime minister, had pledged to create a million jobs by 2020. Perhaps 50,000 have been conjured up. Fidesz, the ruling right-wing party, is getting hopeful. It churns out grandiose plans and, when they do not work, dreams up new taxes. After a discount on unhealthy food the government is now taxing telephone calls.<\/p>\n<p>Eight years of Socialist diligence and corruption left Fidesz with a mess that has been made much worse by the euro boom. The markets' reaction was swift: the forint rose to more than 300 to the euro.<\/p>\n<p>There is some good news, however.
